Hammerhead UAV takes flight over Italy

Hammerhead UAV takes to the skies over Italy

"There was an unusual shape in the skies over Italy last week" says Francis Govers at Gizmag. He would be right, the Hammerhead UAV completed its first flight on November 14th. The Hammerhead is an fast, high flying, unmanned aircraft crated by the PiaggiAero Company and Selex ES in Italy.

This event can be both good and bad since this aircraft could be used for more purposes than gathering information, it could be used for violence. This is not the first unmanned aircraft but it is one of the fastest and reliable ones. This aircraft could be used for violence and that violence could effect the world not just me or you. We could be the ones controlling them one day from the ground. I doesn't affect me much but it does affect my family and friends stationed in the military.

This could affect our air force and any future wars. Since we would no longer be inside the aircraft many casualties will be saved. Even though many people will be saved many people would take advantage of nobody being in the aircraft and use it for terrorism. The air force will be getting a higher quality aircraft and a faster one. This event doesn't have effect on everyone in the world but it will impact our safety and reliability on our air force.

First 3-D printed metal pistol

First 3D-printed metal pistol

Szondy, David. "Solid Concepts manufactures first 3D-printed metal pistol". Gizmag. 8 Nov. 2013. Web. 8 Nov. 2013.

Although 3-D printed guns are not anything new, most of the guns are made of plastic instead of metal. Solid Concepts has made the first fully functional 3-D printed firearm. Gizmag calls it, "a prime example of past meets future" since they are using the classic Model 1911.

I would think this is a big step in technology and gun manufacturing. I like the idea of this way to make guns but computers have lots of glitches and even though it might not make a difference in  little things but guns can be dangerous and one flaw can injure someone very bad. I think that making guns by machines and by hand now is the best way to make guns since there's less chance of flaws.

I think this is not going to effect me very much but one day when I do buy my own gun it might be 3-D printed. This could effect how much a gun would cost. Now that they can be printed then the price of guns will go down dramatically. People could even get fired because they don't need the workers to make the guns. Then they would get hired again to design the guns and work the computers. Maybe that's not all bad, overall it's a good, efficient way to produce guns.

AMAZE project aims to put first 3D metal printer on the ISS

"AMAZE project aims to put first 3D metal printer on the ISS".

"3D printers have already migrated from factories to the home and are now set to journey into space" says Darren Quick of Gizmag. Sending tools and structures can cost millions of dollars and the metal printer is going to print all of it instead. The printer can print 3D metal up to 2 meters long, long enough to print satellites on.

I think this could have a big impact on the world. We could not only save a lot of money but we can print metal! We can send only this printer to the station and have it print the satellites instead of making the satellites down on earth and sending them to the station. Sending things to the Space Station costs millions of dollars.

This could affect me since all of the money that they don't spend sending up the sattelites can be put into use they can start to make more innovative things.

Bi-Weekly Blog Post #3

My week was normal, nothing really special. We got our report cards, I'm not so happy. When we first got our report cards I almost cried, tears started to build up in my eyes. I just put my head on the table and went through what my  life would be like if I had those grades all the time, no job, mo money, no school, no life. Okay, that was really dramatic but I did almost cry. We got a Renaissance project that we have to present in front of the whole 9th grade and 10th grade, it's going to be horrid. Worst part is that I have to do it twice, once for my science class and another for my history class. If we don't do this project we can't go on our field trip. I don't have my phone this weekend so I will probably get lots of it done.

New terms this week:
  • Online Predator: a commonly used term for someone who uses the Internet to develop appropriate relationships with kids or teens.
  • Risky: potentially harmful to one’s emotional or physical well-being
  • Manipulate: trying to influence someone to do something they might not otherwise do, for one’s own benefit.
  • Stereotype: a popular belief about a group of people, based on assumptions that are often false.
One of the new web 2.0 tools I learned to use is BrainShark. Brainshark is a website where you can upload your presentation and add sound. You can speak for your presentations and not even be there to present it. If you hate talking for a presentation in front of everyone this website really helps. Another idea, if you can stand up in front of everyone but you can't talk, try and lip-sync to what you say on the presentation.
Brainshark is a nice tool to have to promote your business or to present to your class but some teachers or bosses will not allow this, which is a negative. A positive is that you don't have to speak in front of anyone, your presentation does it for you.

For digital literacy I learned how to use the Internet more correctly and how I cannot base people off of stereotypes. I learned how some people can use the Internet for bad things and how they deceive you. I was surprised of how what I thought was all wrong and that there are predators that are my age and they can track me and they can hurt my reputation as a good person if I do one thing wrong.
I'm going to make sure I don't do anything I regret on the computer or send anything without someones permission. I am going to use the Internet properly and not do anything that could hurt me or anyone around me. I'm not going to base people off of stereotypes or tell anyone that I don't know personally my personal information.

"Curiosity Rover Discovers Mars Dirt Is 2% Water"

"Curiosity Rover Discovers Mars Dirt Is 2% Water"

Mike Wall. Curiosity Rover Discovers Mars Dirt Is 2% Water. Space. 26 Sept. 2013. Web. 27 Sept. 2013. http://mashable.com/2013/09/26/mars-water-curiosity-rover/
"Future Mars explorers may be able to get all the water they need out of the red dirt beneath their boots" writes Mike Wall, senior writer for Space.com. Mars rover Curiosity has found that the planets soil contains 2% water. Future astronauts could get about 2 pints of water for every cubic foot. Curiosity's next great discovery might be at Mount Sharp, his next mission.
This effects us more than you might think, if we ever get the chance to send man to Mars the they could do more extensive research there and learn more about the planet. Maybe one day the Earth is getting very populate and we need to grow our crops there or even send colonies there to plant grass and trees to make the atmosphere able to support life. Maybe we could even go there like a vacation spot when the red planet can support life.
In a sense, We could create a habitable planet now that we know that the is water on on Mars. We could send plants to Mars and create an habitable atmosphere. This process could take so many years that everyone on this world could die and it would be their great grandchildren to see this world. It is amazing that this world could have more life on it, if it doesn't already.

Bi-Weekly Blog 2

My weeks been awesome! I've made a few more friends. Theres nothing bad that happened this week. My mom and her boyfriend just head off to Hawaii today, hope they have fun! I just wish they would've went in the summer and taken me with them but they can have their time. I got used to the school already, it's a really great school. Today we have a guest speaker and we don't have our clubs but that's OK I just wonder what he's going to be talking about. I have no idea who this guy is he's in the NBA but I don't watch much sports. Overall, this week was the best in a while.

Above me is the digital citizenship Prezi. It will tell you all you need to know about how to be safe online and what are good ethics to use online.
Prezi is another web 2.0 I learned to use over the last two weeks. It's way better than just a regular power point, it moves and you can do all kinds of different things. Prezi has lots of cool animations you can use and you can add pictures. It's a lot neater than power point and you can also make your "slide" however big you want! There is some bad things about it like the fact that sometimes it can get a little confusing, when you move something you move everything inside of it and you have to zoom out a bit to change anything around or inside of it.

Here are some other digital literacy words I learned:

Publish: to present a finished piece to a public audience. You have to publish any kind of post to present it to the public world.
Trustworthy: accurate and dependable. Before you use any website, you must make sure it's trustworthy or else you may get the wrong information.
Evaluate: to carefully examine something to determine its value. You must evaluate something to see if its trustworthy.
Criteria: standards on which you base your judgement. The criteria are what you will be evaluating.

This information is going to make me think before I use any website I'm not to sure about. You can't always trust everything on the Internet. Even though some things may seem like an OK place to get information I have to think, anybody can put anything on the Internet, even if they know nothing about that subject. Next time I use a website for a project I'm going to make sure that its dependable.

The Creative Senz3D

The Senz3D is a gesture camera meant for your PC that can sensor your hads and your gestures.

"Hands-on with the Creative Senz3D"
Adam Williams. "Hands-on with the Creative Senz3D." Gizmag, 6 Sept. 2013. Web. 6 Sept. 2013. <http://www.gizmag.com/hands-on-with-the-creative-senz3d/28975/>.

Adam Williams wirtes about a new product that is "the future of PC interation". The Senz3D is able to keep track of various hand gestures and even play your online PC games. This device can pick up your movements only six inches to three feet but "performs very well" according to Gigmag. On September 25th Senz3D will be being sold in the US for $199.
I honesty think people are getting lazier and lazier but atleast with this product you can actually do more than more your fingers around a keyboard and mouse. I feel that this product is going to to be really cool and a really nice system for PC gamers. Even if your not much of a gamer I think the Creative Senz3D would be really nice to use. I do like PC gaming and I really love my computer so this would be something I would buy, if it wasnt so much money.

Williams, Adam. "Creative Senz3D." Medium. Gizmag. 6 Sept. 2013. Media. 6 Sept. 2013.

So far this system hasnt had much of a impact but when the system comes out it will be on huge demand by gamers everywhere.

Bi-Weekly Blog Post 1

Hey, everyone! This is my first blog post! My weeks been pretty good. Its only my second week in high school, I'm still scared! I am getting used to it though, maybe now I wont get so nervous and actually pass my tests. Yeah, I'm not doing so good so far even in my easiest class I got grades like a 75%!!! Yes, 75% is bad.
I haven't made that many friends, well, not in my own grade level. Most of my friends are sophomores, they told me that I'm only freshman that will actually talk to them. That makes me feel all nice inside ^.^ The sophomores are really awesome, not like I thought they would be. What I don't understand is how as soon as we walk into the building on our first day we are already in a social group, so you could walk in and be a nerd, popular or just in the middle, I'm in the middle and I like it!
FickrCC, Friendly Greetings Awesome Smiley, January, 21 2009
Schoology is a new web 2.0 tool I learned. It is a  Facebook for school. It really helps you organize your school work and helps you keep up with things that are happening at your school. You can take test and quizzes online and turn in assignments. But, you have to get a code from your teachers to make one.

These are some new words for digital literacy I learned:

  • Fair use: The ability to use a small amount of someone’s creative work without permission, but only in certain ways.

  • Commercial Purposes: A use in connection with a business, usually for profit.

  • Copyright: A law that protects a creator’s ownership of and control over the work he or she creates, requiring other people to get the creator’s permission before they copy, share, or perform that work.

  • Creative Commons: A kind of copyright that makes it easy for people to copy, share, and build someone’s creative work- as long as they give the creator credit for it.

  • Public Domain: Creative work that’s not protected by copyright and its therefore free for you to use however one wants.

Learning all of these digital literacy terms I'm going to think about things before I do them online. I'm Going to make sure that I use things that are creative commons or public domain and make sure to give credit to the writer or creator.
